Guidance on Dyslexia
Rise Act
“As co-guardians of the welfare of the citizenry, I urge that with all diligence this issue at hand regarding Dyslexia be addressed with expedience. Every now and then there appears a community issue that should not be politicized. This is the one! This is such an important issue for the many reasons already stated. However there is just one more. In order for our people affected by this disorder to have a sense of well-being, it behooves us, the community caregivers (political and ecumenical), to move with post-haste to remedial actions.”
~ Rev. Dr. Clarence Pemberton, Former Education Chair, Black Clergy of Philadelphia & Vicinity
“You’re discouraged so much by what others tell you. I want to write a book…I’ve started recording it already…to help others. I’ve worked so hard myself.”
~ Dr. Tracy Johnson, President and Founder of Vessels of Hope
“I discovered I was dyslexic when I was 14 years old. During my early education, I was dealing with a lot of self-esteem issues not knowing what was going on with me. My school environment did not help the situation in the slightest bit. They isolated the children in what they call a resource room. However, all of the children in the school decide to pick on those particular children. As a child, you have to deal with so much trauma inside of the public school system: (Bullying). With the frustration of not knowing what was going on with me, I started to build up a lot of anger and resentment towards education. I would pick fights to get out of class because the work that was presented to me, I could not do so I needed to escape. Not being diagnosed with like being in prison!”
