They need to understand why the difficulty is occurring, which underlying skills are affected, how those difficulties are influencing learning and performance, and what type of intervention or support is appropriate.
At The Reading Clinic, our approach begins with understanding the learner.
We provide specialized educational diagnostic services and evidence-based intervention designed to identify and address the underlying language and literacy skills associated with dyslexia and related reading difficulties.
Identification is not the end of the process. It is the beginning of informed intervention.
Dyslexia Intervention Is Not Simply Tutoring
A learner with dyslexia does not simply need “more reading.”
Effective intervention requires explicit, systematic, appropriately sequenced instruction that responds to the learner’s specific pattern of strengths and needs.
At The Reading Clinic, specialized dyslexia intervention extends beyond the instructional session itself. Our work incorporates:
- evidence-based structured literacy and specialized reading intervention;
- individualized instructional planning based on the learner’s profile;
- explicit and systematic instruction in identified areas of need;
- diagnostic interpretation that informs instructional priorities;
- ongoing progress monitoring and analysis;
- adjustments to pacing, intensity, and instructional focus based on the learner’s response;
- parent and caregiver communication; and
- professional coordination and oversight across evaluation, intervention, educational planning, and advocacy when appropriate.
The difference is not simply what program is used. It is the expertise used to determine what to teach, how to teach it, how the learner is responding, and what should happen next.
From Diagnosis to an Appropriate Intervention Pathway
No two individuals with dyslexia have the same learning profile.
For that reason, The Reading Clinic does not approach intervention as a one-size-fits-all service. Diagnostic and educational information is used to identify areas of need and help determine an appropriate intervention pathway.
Depending upon the learner’s profile, intervention may target areas such as phonological awareness, sound-symbol relationships, decoding, encoding and spelling, word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, written language, and related skills affecting literacy development.
Progress is monitored so that instruction can be adjusted as the learner develops rather than simply progressing through a program according to a predetermined calendar.
Dyslexia Across the Lifespan
Dyslexia is lifelong, but its impact and the support an individual needs can change over time.
The Reading Clinic works with children, adolescents, college students, adults, and professionals seeking greater understanding of their learning profile and appropriate pathways for support.
For some individuals, the need is early identification and intervention. For others, it may involve diagnostic clarification, educational planning, accommodations for college or high-stakes examinations, workplace considerations, or a better understanding of challenges that have persisted into adulthood.
Our goal is not to define an individual by a diagnosis. It is to provide the understanding, evidence, intervention, and advocacy necessary to help that individual move forward.
Learning Shouldn’t Hurt.
